The Perry & Hazel Robinson, Necie Walker Scholarship Fund

Mission:

The Perry & Hazel Robinson, Necie Walker Scholarship is dedicated to empowering eligible students who consistently attend Robinson Memorial Church and exhibit leadership qualities. It offers financial assistance to these individuals, enabling them to pursue higher education while promoting academic excellence and community involvement.

Purpose:

As the cost of secondary education continues to escalate, numerous families face formidable financial obstacles that hinder access to higher education, causing significant difficulties. Addressing these fiscal challenges is crucial to fostering pathways that enhance college enrollment rates for our youth, while simultaneously cultivating future leaders within both the church and the broader community.

Target Audience:

Our scholarship program is designed to support high school seniors, GED recipients, individuals from low-income backgrounds, and first-generation college students who are dedicated attendees and actively participate in activities at Robinson Memorial Church.

Background and History of the Scholarship Program

Inspiration:

Established in 2021 through a partnership between Pastor Michael A. West and Mother Ethel N. Morrow, the Perry & Hazel Robinson, Necie Walker Scholarship commemorates the legacy of our founders, Superintendent Perry Robinson, his wife, Hazel, and Mother Necie Walker. This scholarship aims to address the urgent requirement for greater access to higher education opportunities for students who are consistent in their church attendance. The founders of our organization were proponents of spirituality and education. From its inception, the scholarship has facilitated one student's pursuit of academic aspirations at a higher education institution, thereby contributing positively to a more diverse workforce and stronger communities. RMC remains dedicated to upholding this legacy of opportunity, guaranteeing that deserving students receive the necessary resources to succeed and effect meaningful change in the world.

Connection to Organization's Mission:

RMC is steadfast in preserving the legacy of our founders by exemplifying the teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Ghost and the everlasting love of God. We honor and enhance our heritage by offering opportunities for spiritual growth and learning throughout all stages of life. Our scholarship aims to inspire leadership and furnish resources that encourage service to one another and to the broader world. The Robinson Memorial Church of God in Christ's Perry and Hazel Robinson - Necie Walker Educational Scholarship Award is integral to the church's guiding principles, specifically the RMC Five Foundational Pillars of Ministry.

Fundraising Efforts:

RMC pays tribute to Mother Ethel N. Morrow, an esteemed figure within the church and a steadfast proponent of educational advancement. Mother Morrow has consistently demonstrated a firm dedication to facilitating opportunities for young individuals, enabling them to pursue their aspirations of higher education. Her commitment to this cause is evident in her relentless efforts to secure funding for student scholarships, employing personal appeals to acquaintances, loved ones, and even strangers. Her kind demeanor has resulted in her being the principal contributor to the scholarship fund. In collaboration with Pastor West, Mother Marrow diligently organizes fundraisers and events to ensure the continued support of these educational endeavors. Mother Ethel N. Morrow's unwavering dedication exemplifies her profound commitment to ensuring that every student, irrespective of their background, has access to a college education. Her selfless sacrifices, persistent spirit, and steadfast belief in the potential of young individuals have left an indelible impact, for which we are deeply grateful. Beyond providing financial aid, she has fostered in her students a sense of hope and confidence while emphasizing the significance of contributing to their church community. RMC honors her legacy by perpetuating her vision of supporting education and transforming students' lives. We shall carry forward her passion, generosity, and conviction that investing in education paves the way for a brighter future for all.
